A 23 year old man in Texas brought a religious discrimination suit against Wal-Mart when he was fired for wearing a Muslim head-dress, Roman collar shirt and a giant crucifix necklace. The man claimed his religion, (self-founded and called the Universal Belief System) requires this dress. Observed in normal dress outside of work, he claims that is due to the “ever-evolving” nature of his religion.
A 33 year old blind man is appealing a Minnesota decision to refuse him a gun permit. He already has permits to carry a concealed weapon in North Dakota and Utah. He claims to aim by means of sound, gravity and body position.
A man in Germany took his health insurance company to court claiming they should cover the cost of a hairpiece. The court ruled against him noting that “the hair’s protective function against the sun and the cold can easily be replaced by a hat.”
A Brazilian man took his former employer, a brewery, to court claiming his job as a beer taster tuned him into an alcoholic because he was required to drink up to 25 small glasses of beer per each eight-hour shift. He was awarded $49,000.00
A Washington, D.C. judge is suing a local dry cleaner for $65 million. Their offense? They lost his pants and he wants compensation for mental suffering, inconvenience and discomfort. This includes reimbursement for his hours spent on the case and charges for a rental car needed to take his clothes to a more responsible but more distant cleaner.
